24 09 2007 - Funding announced for Youth Choir

Fareham Philharmonic Society are pleased to announce that they have obtained funding to support their project to create and develop a choir for young people in Fareham. These funds will complement the investment of the Society is making both in money and through the volunteer activities of its members.

Funding obtained from Youth Music, Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire County Council

Youth Music

Youth music funding complements music in the national curriculum by supporting activities held mainly outside of school hours and delivered by non-profit making organisations.

Youth Music also aims to support wider aspects of music-making through funding training for music leaders, as well as working strategically to bring together partnership organisations from across the music, education and social sectors.

Fareham Philharmonic Choir has been awarded a grant of £9885 to help finance an 18 month pilot project - culminating with a Gala Concert in March 2009. The funds have been provided under the aegis of the 'Vocalise' project that aims to support projects where the voice is the main instrument.

Fareham Borough Council

An award of £1500 has been received from Fareham Borough Council through the Community Grants programme.  The money will be used to augment the Youth Music grant to ensure that training opportunities are created for young singers in the choir.

Hampshire County Council

Councillor John Bryant has helped the society to obtain an award under the County Councillor devolved budget scheme.  The money is specifically earmarked to obtain an electronic piano that will be available to the Youth Choir for both rehearsal and performance.
